First of all, Appiano is famous for its castles and its vineyards, which characterise the regional natural landscape.
The rich architectural style of the constructions on the forested hills which surround the villages are evidence of a very special culture of life. Only in Appiano, there are about 180 well preserved castles and residences, which enchant both hikers and visitors.

Also in Caldaro there are several ruins as well as inhabited castles, which are very impressive thanks to their location as well as their majesty. What is most impressive in this region are the wide areas of vineyards, covered by golden colours in autumn.

Appiano and Caldaro on the Wine Street represent a very special experience. Old bays, majestic residences, windows decorated with cranesbills, traditional wine cellars and cosy courtyards characterise the scenery in this region. Thanks to its unique location, the architectural style in Appiano and Caldaro represents a mixture of norhtern and southern elements, which results in the very special "Oltradige architectural style". Numerous chapels, churches and monasteries embedded in the natural landscape as well as the sculpures inside these buildings, late Gothic winged altars as well as precious frescos are evidence of a rich past that will impress you!
