In this section we will inform you about Appiano and its curiosities:
The village of Appiano records nearly 2000 sunshine hours a year. Exactly for this reason, already 4000 years ago the local people were convinced that this would be a perfect place for quality wine.
Historical findings testify the viticultural tradition of this area.
By the way, Appiano is the largest wine-growing area of South Tyrol (1100 hectares), which constitutes about 20% of the whole province. And, what a coincidence, also the largest wine-growing area at one stretch is located in this region. On this account, this is the right place for wine connoisseurs. Wine tastings in Appiano take place from spring to autumn.
And of course Appiano is situated along the oldest wine routes of Italy, the 40 year old South Tyrolean wine route.

This area is not only perfect for wine connoisseurs, but also for those who love cycling, as the fully developed bike path network from the Passo Resia to the Lake Garda directly connects Appiano to this cycle path.
Furthermore, Appiano is one of the villages that offers the highest number of hiking trails in South Tyrol. Enjoy hiking to the castles and residences in the surrounding. As you might know, the area around Appiano offers more than 180 castles and is therefore the area with the most castles all over Europe.
It might be attributed to the fact that many aristocrats and artists were living in this area, that the "Oltradige construction style" developed in this area. This style dates back to the Renaissance and displays many characteristics which in some ancient buildings are still preserved.
However, there are around ten legends reporting that the surrounding of Appiano again and again animated the creativity of the local people. This might be the reason why Herbert Rosendorfer, famous author, was living in Appiano.
