Our hike begins on in the centre of the village of S. Michele, where we take the path n° 7 behind the small S. Anna church. This path leads us past Gandegg Castle and to the Stroblhof. This is where we take the path n° 15, which we walk along for about 20 minutes, until finally reaching the ice holes.
Thanks to this natural spectacle different plants, which normally grow on 1200 metres above sea level, spread and thrive at this altitude.
The natural phenomenon: between the rocks in the cleft, there is a continous airflow. Warm air circulates in the clefts, entres the clefts as warm air, is cooled down inside and leaves the clefts as cold air.
After this special natural spectacle we proceed. The path n° 7 leads us past the "Gasthaus Steinegger". Following the path ST we reach the Calvario Mountain as well as the homonymous church. From this place we can go back to the village.
