Climate and soil

The Oltradige has got best conditions for the production of quality wines.

The Alps protect the area from rough winds from the north and the warming sun from the South shines nearly the whole year round. On an average the inhabitants of South Tyrol, esypecially those who live in the South, enjoy about 1,800 hours of sunshine per year.
In July the average tempertature is about 18°C, in July sometimes even 22°C. Rainfall is well distributed throughout the whole province. By the way: did you know that the grapes need a temperature of at least 15 degrees for riping?

The soil in Appiano and Caldaro is calcarous, well areated and easily grows warm due to the calcareous soil and the sedimentation of moraines and rives from the ice age. And exactly this type of soil and rocks offer perfect conditions for substantial vintage and the production of quality wines.
