Wine events

Wine is the centre stage in Oltradige and there are many events in which this precious beverage is at the centre of attention.

Appiano:

> The Day of Wine
Every year at the beginning of spring the wineries of Appiano present their new and old wines in the residence "Lanserhaus". located in the centre of San Michele.

> South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks
On the occasion of the South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks, also in Appiano and Caldaro, there are different events which focus on the wine. In 2008 Appiano offers the event "Enjoying wine in a historic setting" in the residences and castles of the area. This event takes place on May 30.

> Viniculture in San Paolo
This event has already got a long tradition in San Paolo. Numerous events are organised, but the most important one is of course the large dining table in the centre of the village, which is transformed into a place where delicious dishes are served.

> The last grape carriage
This is a custom which became established in Cornaiano. In October, when vintage is completed, the last carriage of grapes is decorated and squeezed in an old wine press. Of course the wineries of Cornaiano offer their best wines and chestnusts are roasted.

Those who love wine and landscape hike from winery to winery and taste wines of their choice in solemn ambience.

> South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks (Appiano: Wine & pleasure - in historical walls)

On the occasion of the South Tyrolean Wine Street Weeks, also in Caldaro and Appiano there are numerous events which focus on wine.

In Caldaro for example you can enjoy the "Culinary festival", taking place on June 7, 2008. This event offers international cuisine in unusual places.

> Wine festival
Every year, around August 15, there is the wine festival of the band of Caldaro. On the grounds of the winery you can not only taste different wines, but also enjoy exquisite dishes, music and entertainment.

> Wine days of Caldaro

On two days at the beginning of September, the market place of Caldaro transforms into a real wine stronghold, as the wineries present their products and offer snacks and typical pastries like the so called "Strauben", which are deep-fried batters sprinkled with sugar.
