If you spend your holidays in the Oltradige region, you can look forward to a very special place for bathing, as the Caldaro Lake is the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. Those who are courageous can swim in this lake already in May, when the average temperature of the lake is 19°C. In summer the temperature can reach even 28°C!
The largest bathing lake is about 1.8 km long, 0.9 km wide and on average 4 metres deep. It is situated at 216 m above sea level and it is an ideal place for water sports. Usually in summer days at about 1 p.m. there is a fresh southerly breeze called "Ora", which comes from the Lake Garda. This breeze incites all windsurfers and sailers to get into the water. Since summer 2006 there is a new seaside resort called "Lido", which is characterised by its modern architecture.
The area in the south of the lake has become a protected biotope and is also habitat of different animals. Complessively 14 information panels provide information about the particularities and the diversity of the animals around the lake.
Our recommendation: combine a walk around the lake (about 7.5 km) with a trip to Leuchtenburg Ruin, situated above the lake, where you can enjoy a splendid view on the lake and the surrounding.
