For all those who do not want to drive up the Mendola Mountain by car, there is a very special funicular that brings you to the top of the mountain.
Winthin only 12 minutes the Mendola funicular takes you 850 metres up to the top of the mountain. The inclination is about 64% and the route to the mountain peak is about 4.5 km long. Thus the funicular railway is one of the longest and steepest funicular railways in Europe.
The Mendola funicular was established in 1903 in St. Anton and should connect the health resorts Mendola and Gries (Bolzano). The facility was projected by the Swiss architect Emil Strub and has been completed within 14 months.
Especially the inhabitants of Caldaro enjoy summer days on their local mountain as well as the view on the entire Oltradige region and the Dolomites.
