Pfarrkirche St. Pauls

The rural cathedral

A special church in a special village

S. Paolo is a locality of Appiano and rightly it is called "historical village", as the centre of the village consists of different architectural elements built in the Oltradige construction style. The centre of the village is also venue for the nativity scene exhibition in the Advent as well as the village festival, taking place every second year.

However, a very special treasure is the parish church, which is located in prime position in the centre of S. Paolo. Its bells sound in a wonderful deep tone and the church seems to be built right for this village.

In recent times, S. Paolo has been the main location of Appiano. Many aristocrats were living in this village and they somehow wanted to express their prosperity. That is why from 1484 to 1533 they built this church. In this way everyone in the surrounding could see how prosperous the inhabitants of S. Paolo were.

Due to its size the parish church Pauli Conversion is also called "rural cathedral".
